It’s always good to feel you’ve gotten exactly what
you paid for when you view a movie, and The
Possession delivers on its promise of a feature film about human possessed
by a demon. If you liked The Exorcist,
you should enjoy The Possession, because
it was action packed and full of surprise twists—the elements of a good
possession movie.
This movie
opened with an action sequence, so it is clear the director, Ole Bornedal, considered audience expectations during shooting because
the movie maintained a fast, steady pace. The movie did not overly explain the
origin of possessions, which was beneficial to the audience because too much
detail would have slowed the movie down.
The movie had several twists and would have been outstanding
if a few more had been added; however, overall it was a good movie for the
genre. One twist that was refreshing was that the possessed girl’s father was
more aware of the change in her behavior than was her mother. The Box, which
contained the demon, was also a fun new twist and a great way to leave room for
a sequel. I will end the review here to avoid spoiling it for those who have
yet to see it. If you have seen the movie, please share your take on it in our
